Connemara Marathon 2011
On April 10th 2011 a dozen members of the Brothers Pearse Gaelic Football Club Senior team will be joining 3000 competitors from 37 countries in this years Connemara Half Marathon in County Galway, Ireland – “The Connemarathon”. The course meanders past bogs, hills, lakes, and the Twelve Pin mountains rising up over the great expanse of Killary Lough, through the quiet village of Leenane, around the Maam Turk Mountains and all the way back up to Maam Cross.
It will be the first time any of the lads from the gaelic football club have taken part in a Half Marathon event – but they have been training hard – taking part in the Huddersfield Road runners 10k, the Wakefield 10k and by doing laps of Blackmoorfoot reservoir!
The Huddersfield competitors will be raising money for the Marsh based charity – The Joseph Salmon Trust. Anyone wishing to sponsor the lads can do by visiting our fundraising page https://www.justgiving.com/teams/connemarathon
Brothers Pearse GAA Club has always had strong links with the West of Ireland and Connemara in particular. Since the 1970′s there has been a regular series of games and cultural exchanges between Brothers Pearse Gaelic Football Cub and Naomh Anna, Leitir Móir and An Cheathrú Rua Gaelic Football Clubs from the Gaelic speaking area of Connemara.
